Arlington played an important role on the first day of the American Revolution. On April 19, 1775, the fiercest fighting of the day took place here on the retreat. The year 2025 will mark the 250th anniversary of the historic battles of Concord, Lexington, and Menotomy, and 2026 will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
